Rattlesnake Point

The text message came a few days prior to the trip “Have you been to Rattlesnake Point?” It was from Tanya, a friend I had been on previous adventures with. My response was simple “Not in years.” We directly decided that that’s where we should go for this week’s adventure.

Rattlesnake Point is famous for the views and the proposal scene between David and Patrick in Schitt’s Creek. The hiking paths are gorgeous and definitely worth the effort. For those who enjoy rock climbing there are many hooks permanently put into the rock face for people to use. For those who don’t want to dangle off the side of a cliff there are many other caverns to explore.

Tanya luckily knew that we needed a reservation, and I spent $20 online to procure it. Tanya dropped her car off at my house and we headed up to the point. Rattlesnake Point is located right on the town line of Milton and Burlington. It is a very windy road, which a very sharp twist on an incline at the end. I drive a small car, and I feared anyone coming the opposite direction. I definitely would not recommend it in the winter.

Our reservation was for 3 hours, and we were there for 2. There were very few people while we were there, although 3 different groups of rock climbers. The majority of the trails are smooth, and easy. However, for those who are up for a challenge, you can go along the Bruce Trail.

The trail I would recommend is the Buffalo Crag, but mix in a bit of the Bruce Trail. The Buffalo Crag trail takes you to some gorgeous lookouts, and most of the climbing spots. However, the Bruce Trail takes you right along side the cliff edge the entire time. It also takes along side some small pit caves for the adventurous.

We climbed through quite a few of the caverns, being careful of where to step because of all the leaves. We took a look for bats, and unfortunately didn’t find any. We also never found the exact spot of the proposal in Schitt’s Creek. If anyone does find it please let me know!

Overall, Rattlesnake Point is a wonderful afternoon. I would highly recommend. Perhaps a long term plan would to become excellent at rock climbing and go back, but that may take some time.
