Drinking in Orange County

Updated: Mar 20, 2023

It's best to put the Bran Van 3000 song while reading this, even though I was barely in LA and I am not 26.

This was my fourth trip to California. All of which have been to the Los Angeles area. My friend very lovingly suggested we leave the city. She also lovingly suggested we go to 10 different breweries. Here they all are with a bit of review in the order we went to them in. 1) Three Weavers Brewing Company. First up there was a dog that had two different jackets. In my world that is very important. They had a few different styles, I especially liked they're Kolsch. The sours were great as well. They had a great patio, but unfortunately it was raining so we had to sit inside. It was really close to the airport, which is why the first one we went to. Female run, which I like to support, get more women into the craft beer scene! Overall I would definitely go ago, or drink if I found it elsewhere. https://www.threeweavers.la/

2) Monkish Brewing Co. This one is an Los Angeles Classic. Unfortunately, they do not do flights so I only had to two of their beers. The Leaf Child I rated very highly. Probably the best I had of the trip. It was a triple IPA. Apparently they have two locations, the one we went to didn't wow me as somewhere to hang out for a while, but the beer was good! https://www.monkishbrewing.com/

3)The Dudes' Brewing Company. This one was around the corner from Monkish. I loved the vibe of it. They also had 20+ things on the menu, so we could really go wild with it. I had a few fabulous sours here, which is my go-to style. Something for everyone, and the flights came on bowling pin shaped trays. https://thedudesbrew.com/

4)Long Beach Beer Lab. This was a cool place, lots of awesome graffiti, and arcade games! Beer wasn't overly standout, but I'd definitely become a regular here if I lived in the area. https://www.lbbeer.com/

5)The Bruery. There was another dog! Although, it was a regular's dog, but it has appeared on one of their labels! We had to rush this one a bit, but I highly recommend it. https://www.thebruery.com/

6)Bottle Logic. This is the place I had heard about for years from my friend. She often sent me bottles of it to try. They are known for their stouts, which are all delicious. It was a very happening place and we were lucky to get seats at the bar. They also sold pizza out of a food truck, which was a life saver at this point in the day. https://bottlelogic.com/

7)Green Cheek Beer Co. This was another happening place. We had to share a table with some folks to get a seat. Beers were delicious, and they sold food although we didn't get any because I directly jumped in the ocean after this. https://www.greencheekbeer.com/

8)Riip Beer. I was completely covered in sand when we went in there, but it felt appropriate because it definitely had surfer vibes to it. I loved their beer and liked the aesthetic of the place. They use old barrels as tables, which is always fun. https://riip.beer/

9)Docent Brewing Company. This was one of my favourites. Wide menu, lots of catchy titles, sold food and overall great environment. In a strange industrial area, but many of these breweries were. I would definitely recommend this one if you are in the are, I loved all of their beers. https://docentbrewing.com/

10) Laguna Beach Brewing Company. This was a great one to end on. Lots of tasty sours and radlers. Even my friend who doesn't like beer found something she enjoyed. Gorgeous area, tucked into a valley. A great way to end the brewery tour, and my friend lovingly bought my a t-shirt. https://lagunabeer.com/

On this trip we also hit up Eureka! restaurant, and the Anaheim packing house for drinks. Both super fun, with great cocktails. The packing house even had a speak easy, but you do need reservations for that. So check out The Blind Rabbit - Anaheim's First Neighborhood Speakeasy if you're going to go.

Other than that, I stupidly went in the ocean just to make an advertisement for my Red Rising podcast. As a Canadian I will say that the water was warm, just very rough. Nearly died as a wave took me out. Maybe I shouldn't have worn a dress in the ocean?? Check out the whole video here!
